The Department of Commerce at Dr. V.S. Krishna Government College, Visakhapatnam, is renowned for its esteemed faculty, including Dr. Vishnu Murthy, Dr. G. Srinivasa Rao, and Dr. G. Rajukumar, who have all received the prestigious Best Teacher Awards from the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
Established in 1968, the department initially offered both intermediate and undergraduate (UG) courses in commerce. The first batch of Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) students took their university examinations from 1968 to 1971. Several distinguished educators such as Sri B.S. Patro, Late P.V. Sitarama Rao, and Sri G. Rama Rao Naidu significantly contributed to the department's development.
In 1981, the department relocated to its current premises at Maddilapalem, which marked a period of rapid growth in infrastructure and student intake. Prominent teachers like Late C.K.P. Babji, Sri P.S. Prakasha Rao, Sri B. Satya Murthy, and Sri N.G.P. Padmanabham further advanced the department. Leadership by senior lecturers such as Sri D. Atchaiah, Capt. M.T. Bhagavan Rao, and Sri P. Raja Ram also played a vital role in its growth. Notably, lecturers V. Chittabbai and T. Radhakrishna, Chandramouli were promoted as Principals of various government degree colleges. Under the headship of Dr. Vishnu Murthy, the department gained significant prominence. Faculty members like Pudi Satyanarayana, Ramachandra Murthy, Dr. B. Ramachandra Rao, and Rekha Ramarao have dedicated their services to the department.
Currently led by Dr. G. Rajukumar, the department got renovated and flourishing academically. It boasts a built-up area of 130 square meters, which includes a commerce computer lab and a staff room. All the 7 sanctioned posts are filled by regular eminent faculty. In addition to that, Six guest faculty render their services.

The department enjoys autonomy in preparing its annual academic plan, aligning with the syllabus approved by the academic council and Board of Studies of the college. It actively organizes curricular and co-curricular activities such as seminars, assignments, quizzes, debates, group discussions, market surveys, guest lectures, and extension activities to enhance students' knowledge and competitive edge in the market.
